I use the first people set as my students' first introduction to "he" and "she": "What's he?" "He's a doctor." "What's she?" "She's a nurse."
Later, I come back to jobs with plural cards, so students can ask "What are they?" "They're dentists." From there we move on to describing what people do: "A doctor works at a hospital."
Pair the vocabulary with one sentence pattern at a time. Each level builds on the one before.
Jobs are an ideal first set for he and she, because each card shows one clear person. Students learn the job and the pronoun at the same time.
Point out that anyone can do any job: "She's a pilot." "He's a nurse." Swapping he and she as you practice keeps students listening and avoids stereotypes.
An astronaut, an artist, a doctor. Jobs are a natural place to practice when we say "an."
Each job goes with a place and a tool: a doctor at a hospital with a stethoscope, a cook in a kitchen with a pan. Matching games make the vocabulary stick.
A student picks a job card and gives clues: "I work at a school. I help students." Classmates guess the job.
Mix job cards with place cards (hospital, school, farm, fire station). Students match them and say "A farmer works on a farm."
Students draw themselves in a future job and present it: "I want to be a vet. I like animals."
Flashcards and the vocabulary sheet on day 1, word search on day 2, Who am I? on day 3, then bingo or the board game to finish.
